9-Day Serengeti Safari & Zanzibar Holiday

A thoughtfully designed Tanzania journey, shaped around the way you want to travel.

The journey

Safari Overview

Safari Overview

This itinerary deliberately combines active safari days with a slower coastal finish, giving the journey a clear change of pace instead of overloading Zanzibar with excursions. Over 9 days, the planned route is Arusha, Tarangire, Serengeti, Serengeti, Ngorongoro, Zanzibar, Zanzibar, Zanzibar, Zanzibar. It is especially suitable for travellers wanting more serengeti time before the beach. Accommodation examples are selected for practical location and comfort, but the final property must be confirmed against availability, season and the guest's budget. The website price is a planning benchmark, not a promise for every date or group size.

Route: Arusha - Tarangire - Serengeti - Serengeti - Ngorongoro - Zanzibar - Zanzibar - Zanzibar - Zanzibar

Start: Arusha / JRO | End: Zanzibar | Duration: 9 Days

Travel style: Private comfort safari
Best for: Travellers wanting more Serengeti time before the beach
Season: Year-round

Website price: From USD 2,980 per person. This is a planning benchmark, generally based on four adults sharing comfort accommodation in lower or shoulder-rate periods. Final pricing depends on travel dates, group size, confirmed accommodation, park fees, flight sectors and supplier availability.

Accommodation Confirmation

Accommodation names in this itinerary are recommended examples used to show the intended standard and geography of the route. A property is not guaranteed until availability has been checked, the room category and meal plan have been agreed, and the reservation has been confirmed in writing. If a named property is unavailable, Tamri International may propose a comparable alternative in a location that protects the itinerary flow.

Wildlife & Timing Reality

Wildlife sightings are natural and cannot be guaranteed. Driving times are approximate and may change because of road conditions, weather, park formalities, wildlife stops, border procedures or flight schedules. Great Migration itineraries are routed according to the most suitable Serengeti sector for the travel dates, but exact herd positions and river crossings are never guaranteed.

Day by day

Follow the rhythm of your safari.

Each day is designed with a gentle balance of movement, discovery and time to simply be in the wild.

Day 01

Arusha to Tarangire National Park

Arusha to Tarangire National Park
Day 01Tarangire

Depart Arusha after breakfast and travel south-west toward Tarangire. The drive normally takes around two to three hours before park formalities and the first game drive. Tarangire is known for large baobab trees, the Tarangire River and strong elephant viewing, while lions, giraffes, zebra, wildebeest and many bird species are also possible. Enjoy a picnic lunch or lodge lunch depending on routing, continue the afternoon game drive and reach your lodge before dinner. Daily timing remains flexible within park regulations and confirmed logistics. The guide will adjust stops and pacing according to road conditions, wildlife activity and the guests' comfort while protecting the overall route plan.

Night accommodation: Sangaiwe Tented Lodge or Maramboi Tented Lodge

Day 02

Tarangire to Central Serengeti

Tarangire to Central Serengeti
Day 02Serengeti

Leave Tarangire after breakfast and travel through the highlands toward the Serengeti. This is a longer road day, but it becomes part of the safari as scenery changes from cultivated highlands to the open plains. Depending on permits and route, pause at viewpoints in the Ngorongoro Conservation Area before continuing through Naabi Hill Gate. Once inside Serengeti, the transfer becomes an en-route game drive, with opportunities for plains wildlife and predators before reaching camp in the central region. This is an important transfer-and-game-drive day rather than a short hop. Travel time varies with the chosen camp, road conditions and wildlife stops, so the itinerary should leave enough daylight and avoid overpromising a full separate game drive after a long transfer.

Night accommodation: Kubu Kubu Tented Lodge or Serengeti Serena Safari Lodge

Day 03

Full Day in Central Serengeti

Full Day in Central Serengeti
Day 03Serengeti

Dedicate the day to central Serengeti, one of Tanzania's most reliable year-round wildlife areas. Start early if you want cooler temperatures and active predators, then follow your guide's local knowledge around river valleys, kopjes and open plains. Because this is a private safari, you can spend longer at meaningful sightings instead of following a rigid circuit. Lunch may be carried into the park or taken at camp, with the afternoon reserved for further game viewing and photography. The guide can adapt the day's game-drive rhythm to wildlife movement, road conditions, park rules and the guests' interests. Wild animals move freely, so the itinerary creates strong viewing opportunities without guaranteeing any specific sighting.

Day 04

Serengeti to Ngorongoro Highlands

Serengeti to Ngorongoro Highlands
Day 04Ngorongoro

Begin with a morning game drive in Serengeti, a useful time for predators and quieter roads, then travel east toward the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. The route provides a final look at the plains before climbing into cooler highland country. Depending on the confirmed itinerary and timing, optional cultural or archaeological stops can be added at extra cost. Reach your lodge near the crater rim or in Karatu, where an early night prepares you for the crater descent the next morning. This is an important transfer-and-game-drive day rather than a short hop. Travel time varies with the chosen camp, road conditions and wildlife stops, so the itinerary should leave enough daylight and avoid overpromising a full separate game drive after a long transfer.

Night accommodation: Ngorongoro Serena Safari Lodge or The Retreat at Ngorongoro

Tonight’s stayNgorongoro Serena Safari Lodge
Day 05

Ngorongoro Crater and Return to Arusha

Ngorongoro Crater and Return to Arusha
Day 05Arusha

Descend into the crater in the morning for a focused game drive, taking advantage of the cooler hours before midday traffic increases. After a picnic lunch and final wildlife viewing, climb out of the caldera and drive back through Karatu and the Rift Valley to Arusha. Arrival is usually late afternoon or early evening depending on road conditions and the time spent in the crater. Drop-off can be arranged at an Arusha hotel or, when flight timing safely allows, at the airport. Final drop-off timing should be matched to the guest's onward flight or hotel plan. If an onward flight is booked, a safe time buffer should be kept rather than relying on the most optimistic road estimate.

Night accommodation: Forest Hill Hotel or Rivertrees Country Inn

Day 06

Arusha to Zanzibar by Air

Arusha to Zanzibar by Air
Day 06Zanzibar

Transfer to Arusha Airport or Kilimanjaro International Airport for the scheduled flight to Zanzibar. Exact departure airport and routing depend on the airline and date. On arrival in Zanzibar, meet the coastal transfer team and continue to your beach hotel. The remainder of the day is deliberately left easy so the guest can recover from the safari before adding optional island activities. Scheduled light-aircraft times, routing and baggage allowances are subject to the operating airline and can change. The final travel documents should confirm the exact airstrip, reporting time, baggage limit and transfer arrangements.

Night accommodation: Zanzibar Bay Resort or Breezes Beach Club & Spa

Tonight’s stayZanzibar Bay Resort
Day 07

Zanzibar Beach Day

Zanzibar Beach Day
Day 07Zanzibar

Enjoy an unstructured beach day with breakfast at the hotel and time to relax by the Indian Ocean. Optional activities such as a reef excursion, spice experience, Stone Town visit or sunset cruise can be quoted separately, subject to weather and local operating conditions. Keeping at least one unscheduled beach day after safari gives travellers time to rest rather than turning the coastal extension into another packed touring programme. Zanzibar arrangements depend on the confirmed hotel meal plan and any optional excursions selected. Beach time should remain unhurried, while Stone Town, spice-farm, marine or cultural activities are added only when they fit the guest's interests and schedule.

Day 08

Stone Town and Zanzibar Coast

Stone Town and Zanzibar Coast
Day 08Zanzibar

Use the day to combine cultural exploration with beach time. A guided Stone Town visit can introduce the old city's architecture, markets and layered history, while a spice-farm visit may be added if desired. Later transfer to or return to the beach resort. Activities should be paced around heat, tides and the traveller's interests instead of forcing every excursion into one day. Zanzibar arrangements depend on the confirmed hotel meal plan and any optional excursions selected. Beach time should remain unhurried, while Stone Town, spice-farm, marine or cultural activities are added only when they fit the guest's interests and schedule.

Day 09

Zanzibar Departure

Zanzibar Departure
Day 09Zanzibar

Enjoy breakfast and, depending on flight time, a final period at the hotel before transfer to Zanzibar International Airport. The package ends at the airport. Travellers should keep domestic and international flight timings separate enough to protect against operational changes, especially when connecting from a light-aircraft safari sector on the same day. Zanzibar arrangements depend on the confirmed hotel meal plan and any optional excursions selected. Beach time should remain unhurried, while Stone Town, spice-farm, marine or cultural activities are added only when they fit the guest's interests and schedule.

Night accommodation: No overnight - package ends after the stated transfer/activity.
